Field Day
The TRARC Field Day Operation has concluded for this year 2022. It was held at our traditional site at the White Oak Park Water Tower Site, located just off of Muse Lane/Carpenters Lane, on June 25th and 26th. Our FIeld Day coordinator this year was Jim Bricker N3JHB. We operated as class 4A, which describes 4 transmitters operating on generator power. This year we had quite a few new licensees appear for Field Day. They were Mike Farnish KC3TYD, John Maskaka K3CRO, Paul McGowan KC3TRO, Matt Dehno KB3MKM, Michael Telling KC3UNE, and Carl DeGuiseppe KC3ULP. Jim had a great team consisting of station captains: Jim Bricker N3JHB, Curt McCormick WU3U, Bill Power s KB3WP, and Bill Hetrick N3LQC. There was also support from quite a few club members with both the setup and tear down of the operation. Antennas were provided by Jim Bricker N3JHB, Steve Illig KB3UWC, Curt McCormick WU3U, and Bill Hetrick N3LQC. Others were Mike Kowalcheck KV3L who did quite a bit of the advance work. Bill Powers KB3WP and Cindy Dougherty KB3UEG who cooked and provided food. And Curt McCormick who provided those yummy cookies. John Seiler K3MI was one of many helping and taking photos during field day. John also posted them rapidly on the TRARC FaceBook page. President Sean Lear K3SJL had his drone with him and took scads of pictures, which appeared on the TRARC Facebook page. There was lots of training by the site captains and operating by many of the new licensees. A special thanks to Curt McCormick WU3U for his field day operating class. qdEM We had quite a few local amateurs visit the site.
All stations logged their contacts using the N3FJP Field Day Software. Our Field Day scores have been tabulated and sent to the ARRL for publication in QST magazine. The Field Day results were published in the December 2022 QST magazine starting on page 61. See below for a summary.
There were 12 operators who signed their logs. It looks like operator's scores were:
Bill N3LQC 252 (FT8), Jim N3JHB 151, Curt WU3U 143, Sean K3SJL 109, Paul KC3TRO 59, Chuck W3ON 53, Antonio WA3AHC 50, Tom N3EE 17, Mike KC3TYD 15, Steve W3SHF 14, Bill KB3WP 9, and Mike KB3MKM 2. Also Jason KC3IXI was training and helping on the FT8 Digital station. Those operating scores are only a partial explantion of the scoring. Many simply switched chairs and helped with logging the many contacts made on this years field day. This year was, IMHO, a training year.
We may change field day location in 2023. More information is to be announced.
